William and I have been watching a lot of The Cat In The Hat together lately. It has been so much fun to watch him discover the world of Dr. Seuss, because let’s face it, no one can paint a picture quite like he can.
If there were two authors who defined my childhood, it would have to be Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein. I have recently been spending some more time in Dr. Seuss books with my children and am getting ready to introduce Hannah to the world of Shel Silverstein. Some of my favorites? The Cat In The Hat, There’s a Wocket In My Pocket, Where the Sidewalk Ends, A Light In The Attic. The list could go on and on, but we’ll stop it there.
The stories and poems that I enjoyed as a child have a lot more meaning to me as an adult, and I am able to recognize these men for the geniuses that they were.
I have put my inspiration to good use and designed a line of simple onesies/t-shirts based on the simple words of these men. You’ll see more in the weeks to come, but let’s start with this one.
“Yes we’ll walk with a walk that is measured and slow, And we’ll go where the chalk-white arrows go, For the children, they mark, and the children, they know, The place where the sidewalk ends. ” –Shel Silverstein

LOVE the onesie!! How clever you are!

My favorite Shel Silverstein,
Rain
I opened my eyes
And looked up at the rain,
And it dripped in my head
And flowed into my brain,
And all that I hear as I lie in my bed
Is the slishity-slosh of the rain in my head.
I step very softly,
I walk very slow,
I can’t do a handstand–
I might overflow,
So pardon the wild crazy thing I just said–
I’m just not the same since there’s rain in my head.
